Insecticide
On HiatusUnity, C#

(NOT FINAL SOFTWARE. LIKE AT ALL.)
Insecticide is queer buggy typing game/dungeon crawler.
Gameplay OverviewInsecticide is a tile-based dungeon crawler. The player must traverse through various dungeons (spaces in the backyard), battle enemies, find new gear, and even solve a puzzle or two.
The combat system in Insecticide is where it begins to stray from your traditional DRPG. When enemies rush at you, a key or sequence of keys appears above their head. Pressing these keys will stun the enemy, giving you an oppurtunity to type a word to attack. As you find better weapons, the words become more complex and the damage they deal becomes greater.
In the current version of the game, there is a rudimentary difficulty scale. By tracking your starting WPM, Insecticide attempts to create an experience that isn't too easy but not impossible either for players of all typing levels.
Current Status & HistoryInsecticide is my passion project, something I work on whenever I have time. I am the sole developer, responsible for literally every single part of the game (which makes this an even slower process).
The game's development is on hiatus, with plans to resume in January 2026 while I am on winter break from college.
Before the current iteration of Insecticide, there was a fairly playable version which I have lovingly titled Insecticide Alpha. It is more fleshed out than the current version of the game, but the restart was due to a large design shift which drastically altered the mechanics of the game.
Before Insecticide Alpha, I created a narrative typing game called The Days that Follow. This was a deeply personal game about my struggles with functioning day-to-day after being hospitalized for an extended period of time. This game is completed and will never be released, but a large portion of Insecticide Alpha's code was salvaged from it.
In short, Insecticide is a game I have tried to make many times. It is a game that I am okay with taking slow and starting over, because I enjoy the very act of creating it.
